Everton latest news: Joey Barton launches savage attack on David Unsworth and says he looks like a steward

JOEY BARTON launched a savage attack on David Unsworth, claiming he looks more like a STEWARD than a manager.

The former Manchester City midfielder stuck the boot into Everton’s caretaker boss and predicted the Toffees will go down if he remains in charge.

In an astonishing blast, Barton got personal, insisting Unsworth is not fit for purpose and told stunned talkSPORT listeners:  “He’s a glorified PE teacher who shouldn’t be in charge of a men’s team… look at him on the touchline, he’s more like a steward.”

When told of Barton’s hurtful comments, Unsworth refused to take the bait after Sunday’s defeat at Leicester, claiming: “I’ve not seen that. It’s not a problem what Joey Barton says, I couldn’t care less.”

However that didn’t stop Barton’s character assassination on the radio, then again on social media.

The boyhood Everton fan told talkSPORT: “Unsworth, I’m going to be brutally honest here, he doesn’t look right.

“I saw him getting onto the coach as Everton manager the other day, he doesn’t look right. He’s waddling onto the coach, he doesn’t look right.

“I was reading a British Army service manual the other day and one of the things it says is ‘you’ve got to be fit to lead your troops into battle’.

“Now I’m not saying you can’t manager Everton if you’re overweight but it certainly doesn’t look right.

“He’s standing in his suit on the touchline, he doesn’t look like a manager for me.

“How can you get players to exert themselves physically when you’re out of shape?

“I used to watch him as an Evertonian and he was the most immobile left back I’ve ever seen. He’s not a manager. Doesn’t look like one.

“Unsworth makes Alan Brazil look like an athlete. I used to call him ‘Chipper Unsworth’ -he used to chip it and lose it every time.

“I’m a firm believer that teams reflect their manager and Everton did today. They were sloppy.

“Everton need to sort their managerial situation out because it can’t be Unsworth.”

Later Barton took to Twitter to carry on his amazing hatchet job.

He Tweeted: “Will be relegated with him. Took Miralles, Lennon and Rooney off to show he’s not scared of making big decisions. Egotistical moves.”

He then followed that up by posting: “Everton hierarchy should be on the phone to Big Sam or Burnley asking to speak to Sean Dyche. Don’t kid yourself, they’re bang in trouble.”
